I love playing basketball. But nowadays my parents say I cannot go out and play . I am a girl and I am growing up. “Help with the housework,” Mumma tells me. “All the neighbours are pointing fingers and saying that you should not be out with the boys like that.” What do I care what the neighbours think? Doesn’t Mumma trust me? We are only in the playground, where everyone can see us. What do they think I will do? For the last few days I have not been allowed to go out to play. I hate it. It is not fair. My brothers are both older than I am, but they stay out and play all evening long and no one says anything. Why should this happen to me just because I am a girl?
